Nearly three lakh rupees for a phone. For some people, that may be a purchase they have planned and can comfortably afford. For many others, it is enough money to sort out several things at home. That is an AC, two fridges, a TV, a washing machine, a laptop, a phone and a few other useful things—within the amount we started with, before the extra costs above. Choose an AC for the room, not just the discount sticker. Check whether the fridge fits through the door and whether the laptop can run the software you use. Try the phone’s screen, keyboard and speaker if you can. Then ask about the full price: delivery, installation, warranty and service near your home. Appliances also bring electricity bills and maintenance. Before you decide, write down two things: what your current phone cannot do, and what else is waiting to be bought or repaired. Seeing both on paper may make the choice a little clearer.
